AWE is excited to announce that we will be partnering with the Cambodia Rural Development Team (CRDT), a grassroots organization dedicated to empowering local communities, for our next project. This collaboration aims to create lasting change by supporting 50 women farmers in the Kratie Province to enhance their businesses, increase their revenues, and improve their living conditions.
In this blog post, we will explore how this partnership will benefit women farmers in Cambodia and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Why Target Women Farmers in Kratie?
The province of Kratie, located in northeastern Cambodia, is an area where over 70% of the population relies on farming for their livelihoods. However, many of these farmers, especially women, face challenges such as limited access to resources or education to scale their small businesses.
Cambodian women are motivated to improve their annual revenue streams and support their families through income-generating activities. Many are already involved in small-scale farming and business operations, but they often face challenges related to access to training, resources, and markets.
Why Partner with CRDT?
CRDT has been working for years as a grassroots organization in Kratie to address economic challenges by helping people form community-based organizations (CBOs). These organizations act as a source of mutual support, providing resources and guidance to help members—particularly women—improve their livelihoods.
CRDT trains community members to protect wildlife and ensure sustainable incomes through tourism. Protecting fishery and forestry is key to supporting the growth of future generations.
How will AWE Help?
AWE plans to pilot an enhanced version of our Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program in Cambodia, which aims to equip women with the knowledge and skills to run successful farming businesses and to deliver workshops and training to other members of their communities. The TTT program, first launched in 2016, sought to build the capacity of selected women to autonomously plan and deliver our ASSET program—a training initiative designed to empower women with skills in sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
While the original TTT program made a significant impact on those who participated in it, it didn’t fully achieve its potential in scaling the ASSET program to a wider audience. This new iteration of the TTT program is designed to address those challenges.
Through the TTT program, 50 Cambodian women will develop strong facilitation skills, enabling them to run workshops, train other women, and foster a sense of community leadership and collaboration. This model of peer-to-peer learning ensures that the knowledge gained through the program is sustainable and replicable.
But the program isn’t just about business growth. It’s also about women’s empowerment, providing participants with the tools to lead and support their communities in more significant ways.
Join us in Building a Sustainable Future for Cambodia’s Women Farmers
By piloting this innovative training approach in Cambodia, we hope to create a lasting impact on the women farmers of Kratie Province and beyond. Through leadership development, entrepreneurship training, and community-based workshops, we aim to help these women improve their livelihoods, strengthen their communities, and support future generations.
Empowering women farmers is key to driving economic growth, improving living conditions, and creating a more sustainable future. We are thrilled to be embarking on this new partnership with CRDT and are confident that our combined efforts will make a meaningful difference for the women farmers of Kratie Province.
